This past Friday we had our End of the Year TFN where we recounted all the ways God has led us this past year. We also had a time to pray for the CPIs as we send them off to their respective churches. At the end, the students surprised all of us with a dance they prepared.
This past Friday we had Dave give the message on Mark 8 on Jesus salvation versus our notion of salvation. Afterwards we split up into teams and had an in-house make your own film competition. The teams scrambled to make a short production on themes of Star Wars, Kung Fu Panda 4, and the Zombie Apocalypse. The acting was ... well, entertaining at the least.
After we finished our Friday courses, the frosh headed to Golf N Stuff. There we experienced tense bumper boat naval battles, go kart races, mini golf challenges and arcade rounds. The SUPS headed to Mike and Joanna's to chill and watched the greatest fantasy movie series ever - Lord of the Rings of course.
On 2/13 we got to visit the elderly at the Buena Vista Care Center and show them some care, love and prayers. During our program, we sang some oldies like Amazing Grace, shared the gospel message and handouts gifts (cookies, bookmarks and cards) to each of the elderly. It was such a privilege to be able to share God's good news with each of them, reminding them they have a Heavenly Father that wants to spend eternity with them.
This past Friday we got to learn about Christian life in Course 201 and tackle some big questions in Course 101 (what is sin...what does the Bible say is the biggest problem in our world...). Afterwards we played TINE Tag scavenger hunt around the UCSB campus, finding and scanning hidden QR codes that unlocked different challenges. After the heated scavenger hunt race, we ended the night with McConnell's ice cream and some laughs.
This past Friday and Saturday we headed down to LA for our annual So Cal Thanksgiving Retreat, where all the So Cal Gracepoint Churches met together to recount and praise God for all the ways he has worked in our midst. We had times of praise, message, videos that left us in awe, challenged, and thankful for all we got to experience.
We had a frosh LA Trip on Halloween. Of first stop - of course - is all you can eat Korean BBQ. With full stomachs we waddled over to the California Science Center to see the Endeavor and experience the fascinating different zones of life of the animal Kingdom. Then we headed to Snow LA for some refreshing boba (we miss that in Santa Barbara), shaved snow, and fun.
After dinner and bible study we headed over to Mike and Joanna's for costume contest. We had some throwback TMNT but also some rather unconventional costumes...check it out on our flickr - but proceed on your own risk.
This past Saturday we had a mini bbq with fresh patties and hot dogs before the big soccer game. Only after much anxiety (was exciting game), cheering, and cheesy nachos did the game came to a close and we headed home, wondering only if we had held on in our defense of the last 4 seconds of the second half.
After dinner, Mike gave a bible study on sentiments and longing for home. We then celebrated the October birthdays with some nice cool cake followed by an intense Iron Chef competition. To say the least, we were surprised - generally pleasantly - by what we made. Check out our photos on our flickr.
